I grew up in animal loving family who had dogs for as long as I can remember. As a child, I had a Miniature Poodle called Jane. In 1971, as a teenager, I had my first Rough Collie, a sable and white called Arthur with whom I caught the bug competing at companion shows.
I carried on to own the breed for 25 years breeding and exhibiting with success. At the start of my involvement in the breed, I bought 6 dogs in. Three from the world famous Pelido kennel and three from the Rickwood kennel including Rickwood Nicholas Silver who won 2 RCCs. I then began to breed myself with my breeding winning CCs, RCCs and achieving FCI Champion titles. While still in Rough Collies, I fell in love with Salukis watching the late Peta Tribes’ Jauraha Salukis running in the wind. Needless to say, I bought my first from her which was Jauraha Omar who I had lots of fun in the ring with.
Next came Mumtaz Concerto followed by many Daxlore Salukis including my first champion, ‘Ch Daxlore Amir of Fernlark’ as well as other CC and RCC winners. After that, I imported 3 Salukis from Finland, a bitch from the Aziz kennel (Aziz Odeion) and a brother and sister pair from the Kirman kennel (Kirman Bishaar at Fernlark and Kirman Basheera at Fernlark). From these Salukis above, I began to breed.
It was a slow start but I believe an apprenticeship should be served and after 14 years I won my first CC in the breed. From that my kennel has been going from strength to strength winning many prestigious awards and achievements along the way. These include TOP SALUKI 2012 and #2 HOUND 2012 (Ch Jorjenjo Mirzam of Fernlark JW), TOP SALUKI BITCH 2013 (Ch Glenoak Kira of Fernlark), TOP STUD DOG 2012 and 2013 (Ch Fernlark Alsace JW) and TOP BROOD BITCH 2007, 2008, 2009 (Aziz Odeion). During this time, I have imported two more dogs from Finland (Kirman Dafnia at Fernlark JW and Kirman Eumenus at Fernlark) and a brother and sister pair from Italy out of ‘Ch Daxlore Amir of Fernlark‘ (Jasmine of Canerikie JW and Ali’Fu’Ad of Fernlark) who have both won a CC from the Junior class.
Salukis have taken over my life and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I plan to progress with my kennel and hope it continues with it’s winning ways.
